Two people were rescued after a blaze which razed a remote chalet to the ground.

The fire took hold of the building near Tomintoul in Moray at noon on Friday.

Five crews, with support from an incident control unit, battled for four hours to bring it under control.

A man and a woman who had been inside the property were rescued and taken to hospital.

Motorists on the remote A939 Lecht road faced long delays and diversions while crews worked at the scene.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the incident, with specialist officers returning to the scene on Saturday morning.

A fire service spokeswoman said: "A fire investigation unit is there at the moment. Crews went back late last night to check the area."
