An elderly man has died following a crash in Moray which left two other people injured.

The collision happened on the A98 Portsoy to Fochabers road near Cullen at 11.30am on Sunday.

Police have confirmed that one of the drivers, a 77-year-old man, was fatally injured.

A passengers and the driver of the other vehicle have been taken to Dr Gray's hospital in Elgin for treatment.

The vehicles involved were a silver Renault Megane and a blue Rover 75.

Sergeant Malcolm Kinross, of the Road Policing Unit, North East Division, said: "First of all, I would say that our thoughts are with the friends and family of everyone involved with this tragic incident.

"I would appeal for anyone who was aware of a silver Renault Megane or blue Rover 75, around 11.30am today on the A98 between Buckie and Cullen to contact the police on 101."

Next of kin have been informed and the road has been closed with local diversions in place.

It is anticipated the road will remain closed for some time as police investigate the crash.
