Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale has met London mayor Sadiq Khan to discuss the consequences of the UK voting to leave the European Union.

Both politicians campaigned for a Remain vote during the referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union.

Scottish Labour said the pair discussed:

Dugdale said the meeting between the pair produced "positive discussions".

The Scottish Labour leader said: "I have offered my full support to the First Minister and the Scottish Government to try to secure Scotland's place in Europe but as she works hard to make the case across Europe she should also be pushing hard as possible to be involved and at the heart of UK Brexit processes and negotiations.

"The aftermath of the EU referendum will have profound effects across the UK. We can and must work together to find a solution.

"Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain but so did London and other parts of the UK, like Liverpool, Manchester and Cardiff.

"This morning I had a positive and productive discussion with mayor Sadiq Khan about how we - as Labour leaders - can work together as the UK goes forward with the process of leaving the EU.

"For the future of our economies and for the jobs of people living in London and Scotland, it is essential that we do all we can to protect our relationship with the European Union.

"The Tories have put the future of the UK in jeopardy but it will be the work of those parts of the UK who voted to remain how can secure a brighter future for our people in these uncertain times."

The London mayor has been invited to Edinburgh for a further meeting with Dugdale.

Scotland and London both voted to remain in the European Union with majorities of 62% and 60% respectively.
