Labour MP Simon Danczuk has been arrested in Spain and spent at least one night in a prison cell.

The incident allegedly involved a fight with his ex-wife Karen but according to reports she refused to press charges when the case went to court on Tuesday and Danczuk has now been freed from custody.

The Foreign Office confirmed that it was "providing support to a British man who was detained by police in Spain on Monday 15 August."

Danczuk is currently suspended by the Labour party as MP for Rochdale following allegations he sent sexually explicit messages to a 17-year-old girl.

At the time Danczuk admitted that his behaviour was "inappropriate" and "apologised unreservedly" to everyone he had let down.

The text claims are being fully investigated by Labour's National Executive Committee which will then decide on any further action.
