Father skipped community service to appear on Jeremy Kyle show

Alister Lamb went on the programme to try to gain access to his daughter.

Dundee Sheriff Court.

A man is facing jail after he skipped community service to appear on the Jeremy Kyle TV show.

Alister Lamb was put up in a hotel and given taxi rides to and from TV studios when he should have been serving a community payback order for housebreaking.

Lamb, 23, was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work after he stole items including a TV, an xBox console, a train set and a toilet seat from a flat in Dundee.

But Dundee Sheriff Court heard he had only completed one hour of his punishment in the first four months after he was sentenced by Sheriff Tom Hughes.

Lamb's sentencing was delayed after he turned up late for court on Thursday, but speaking to reporters outside he said his appearance on the show had been a "good experience".

He explained he had contacted the programme in a bid to gain access to his daughter from a previous relationship.

"I wasn't that good, I was really nervous. It was a good experience though," Lamb said.

"I watch the Jeremy Kyle show on the telly, so I thought I'd phone them. I was trying to get access through the lawyers, but I thought I'd try this instead."

Lamb, of Baldovie Terrace, Dundee, was ordered to carry out the community service on November 11 last year after he admitted breaking into a flat with another man in Whitfield Avenue, Dundee, last February.

In a report to the court, social workers said Lamb had failed to give his community work "due priority" and asked the court to revoke the order in favour of an "alternative disposal".

The report said: "It would appear that Mr Lamb has not afforded his orders due priority which is evidenced by his continued failures to attend.

"Even when evidence has been submitted and accepted I have no option but to call in to question his commitment to his order given the most recent evidence used was an appearance on the Jeremy Kyle Show.

"I therefore have no alternative but to request that court consider revoking said order in view to imposing an alternative disposal."

Sheriff Hughes granted a warrant for Lamb's arrest after he failed to attend court at 9.30am. Lamb turned up at 10.40am but was told his case could not be recalled.

A spokeswoman for the Jeremy Kyle Show said the episode Lamb was involved in has not yet been aired.
