Serious road collision forces closure of M9 near to Stirling
The incident, which is understood to have involved a motorcycle, took place between junctions eight and nine.
Commuters are facing traffic chaos after a serious road collision involving a motorcycle brought a section of a busy motorway to a halt.
The incident, which took place between junctions eight and nine of the M9 south of Bannockburn, has sparked delays and diversions as police seek to control the flow of rush-hour traffic while dealing with the crash itself.
It is understood that the crash involved a motorcycle at the bridge over the A9, where wet conditions have been experienced on Tuesday afternoon.
Central Scotland Police said the M876 northbound approaching the M9 Junction Eight was closed with a diversion in place to redirect motorists to the M876 to M9 eastbound via Junction Two, Bellsdyke Road to the A905. The M9 southbound at Junction Nine is also closed with a diversion from the A91 via the A905 rejoining the M876 to M9 eastbound. Drivers who know the area can also take the M80 southbound through Falkirk.
A police spokesman said: "It is anticipated the motorway will remain closed for some time."
