A man has appeared in court charged with attempting to murder a shop worker at a convenience store in Glasgow.

Peter Blackwood, 25, allegedly went into KOF Convenience Store in Yoker with his face partially covered and shot employee Naser Hussain on the leg on January 24.

It is alleged he attempted to shoot Mr Hussain on the chest at the Dumbarton Road shop, but the gun did not work.

He also faces a possession of drugs charge and a number of firearms charges. Blackwood, from Ruchazie in Glasgow's east end, appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday, where he was represented by Peter Malone.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody by sheriff Anthony Deutsch.

Papers from the court claim Blackwood entered the shop with his face "partially concealed", pointed a handgun at Mr Hussain and demanded money and cigarettes.

The charge claims he did "point a handgun at his chest and attempt to discharge said at his body whereby it failed to discharge, thereafter repeatedly brandish said handgun at him".

It continues that Blackwood did "attempt to remove a quantity of cigarettes from a cabinet there and then shoot him on the leg with said firearm to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement, permanent impairment and to the danger of his life and attempt to rob him of money and a quantity of cigarettes and attempt to murder him".

He is also accused of possessing cannabis and four firearms charges including possession of a handgun and a bullet "designed or so adapted to expand on impact".

Blackwood will appear again next week for a full committal hearing.
