The family of a 34-year-old man who was killed in a car crash have said he will be "sadly missed".

Gordon Hill, of Irvine, North Ayrshire, died at the scene of the accident on the A719 near Tarbolton, South Ayrshire, on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by police, his family said: "Gordon will be sadly missed by his family and friends and we would like to express our thanks to all the emergency services who attended the road crash."

Mr Hill was driving north in a silver Honda Jazz when it was involved in a crash with a black Ford Focus heading south at around 9.50am.

A 21-year-old passenger in Mr Hill's car was injured and is in a stable condition at University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock. Another passenger, 44, received minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The 48-year-old man driving the Ford Focus was taken by ambulance to Ayr Hospital where he was treated for a leg injury prior to being discharged.

Sergeant Ian Thornton said: "Inquiries are still ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision and I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have information that would assist our investigation, to contact the divisional road policing unit at Irvine by calling the Police Scotland non-emergency number 101."
