Glasgow's standing stones are being temporarily removed as the next phase of a £250m regeneration project gets under way.

The stone circle in Sighthill Park, known as the Sighthill Megalith, was established in 1979 by the Glasgow Parks Department Astronomy Project under the guidance of author Duncan Lunan.

After their removal on Thursday, they will be relocated to a new spot south east of their current location. Their new home was the original site that Mr Lunan had chosen, however this location was not suitable at the time because of multi-storey flats obscuring the horizon sight lines.

The work in Sighthill Park is part of a five year regeneration programme due to finish in 2019.

It will see 800 homes built in the area along with a new school, a footbridge spanning the M8 and a road bridge linking Sighthill and Port Dundas.

Parkland, allotments and public spaces will also be constructed as part of the project.
