A man has been arrested and another is being hunted in connection with a racist attack on a delivery driver.

The 39-year-old driver was carrying out a delivery at a shop in Bargeddie, North Lanarkshire, on Tuesday morning when he was approached by two men.

A bottle was thrown at the van at around 7.20am on Edward Street, smashing the window, before the driver was allegedly pushed to the ground by two men and attacked.

He managed to run away and it is alleged the vehicle was damaged further. The delivery driver was taken to hospital for treatment.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday in connection with an alleged racially aggravated assault. The other man is being hunted by police.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 7.20am on Tuesday, a 39-year-old man was carrying out a delivery at shop premises in Edward Street, Bargeddie, when the windscreen of his van was smashed by a bottle.

"The man got out of his van and was pushed to the ground and assaulted by two men. The van driver managed to run away and his van was damaged further.

"The 39-year-old van driver was treated at Monklands General Hospital and released.

"A 26-year-old man has been arrested and is currently detained in police custody in connection with an alleged racially aggravated assault and alleged vandalism."
