A man has been found dead in his room at a hotel in South Lanarkshire.

Police have launched a major investigation after the discovery of the man's body at the Holiday Inn on Monday.

An ambulance crew was called to the hotel in Hamilton just before 12pm on Monday but the man died at the scene.

The room at the hotel in the town's Keith Street was sealed off and police are currently treating the death as "unexplained".

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Officers were called at around 11.55am to a report of a male having died at a hotel in Hamilton.

"A post-mortem examination will take place in due course. Inquiries are continuing. The death is currently being treated as unexplained."
