A Scot is due in court over the death of a missing woman whose remains were discovered in a garden in Luton, Bedfordshire, last year.

Joseph Doherty, 72, from Port Glasgow, Inverclyde, has received a summons to answer charges including preventing a lawful burial in relation to the death of Natalia Doherty, who disappeared in 2003.

It comes after the remains of 50-year-old were discovered by police in a garden in Luton in December 2015.

Doherty will also face charges of obstructing a coroner in the execution of his duty and perverting the course of justice when he appears at Luton Magistrates Court on May 26.

Daniel Doherty, 67, of Icknield Way, Luton, was charged with the same offences last week.

Mrs Doherty went missing in April 2003 in Eastbourne, East Sussex, and was never seen again.

Her remains were then discovered in a garden in Luton by cold case detectives in December last year.

Police believe Mrs Doherty travelled to Luton when she disappeared to stay with her ex-husband Gerald Doherty at the Regents Arms Pub. Mr Doherty has since died.
