Train passengers in the west of Scotland are facing delays after a vehicle crashed into a bridge in East Ayrshire.

Services between Kilmarnock and Ayr, Glasgow and Stranraer and Glasgow and Carlisle are all affected, with delays expected to continue until at least 4pm on Friday.

Passengers are being warned that numerous trains could be delayed by up to of 30 minutes.

One train from Glasgow Central to Stranraer was running two and a half hours late, according to ScotRail's website.

A ScotRail spokeswoman said anyone affected should keep their tickets and if they are delayed by half an hour or more they will be able to claim repayment.

Police said they had not attended the crash, which happened shortly after Friday lunchtime in the village of Kilmaurs.

ScotRail are expected to release updates on their website and Twitter account.

The spokeswoman said: "Although the cause of this disruption is outwith our control, we are doing everything possible to minimise the impact on our customers until the line is declared safe to re-open."
