An armed robber made off with a four-figure sum after threatening staff at a Glasgow city centre bookmaker.

The man entered Ladbrokes on Renfield Street and threatened staff with a weapon on Sunday at around 9.30pm.

He demanded money and left staff badly shaken, but uninjured, after the incident.

The man then made off in the direction of West George Street towards St Vincent Street with the cash.

CCTV footage is being checked and detectives are appealing for help from the public.

The robber is described as a white man of around 50 to 60 years old who has white or grey stubble.

He is believed to be around 5ft 10in and was wearing a dark fisherman's cap, square rimmed glasses, with brown sunglasses worn on his forehead above his glasses.

He was also wearing a blue/grey waterproof jacket, a dark coloured jumper and a blue and white scarf.

Detective constable Joseph Keith, from the community investigation unit based at Pollok, said: "I'm appealing for anyone with any information to contact us regarding this robbery.

"The city centre was busy at the time of the incident, and we know from CCTV that he ran past a number of people as he made his escape through the town.

"We are conducting door to door enquiries and continuing to analyse available CCTV.

"Any information you have, no matter how small, could make a real difference as part of our broader investigation."

Police are not linking the robbery with those carried out at Ladbrokes shops in Lanarkshireshire.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact CIU officers at Pollok Police Office on 101 or alternatively information can be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
