A man is in a serious condition in hospital after he was punched to the ground in Glasgow.

Police say the serious assault took place in the early hours of Sunday on Kilmarnock Road near Pollokshaws East train station.

At around 2.10am, the 24-year-old victim became involved in an altercation with another man and was punched in the face, falling to the ground.

The attacker then ran off down Kilmarnock Road, turning on to Newlandsfield Road.

A taxi driver then stopped and alerted police to the victim lying injured on the street.

He was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to be treated for a head injury. His condition is described as serious but stable.

The attacker was in his 20s, with black hair. He was wearing a black shirt, black trousers and black shoes.

He was in the company of a woman, who is in her mid 20s and has long blonde hair. She was wearing a cream dress with black high heels.

Detective constable Jim Duncan from Cathcart CID said: "I would appeal to anyone who was on Kilmarnock Road around the time of the attack and may have witnessed what happened to get in touch. "Anyone with information is urged to contact officers at Cathcart CID on 101.
