M&D's theme park has partially reopened after a roller coaster crash left 10 people injured.

Ten people were taken to hospital after the Tsunami carriage came off the rails and plunged 30ft at the amusement park in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, on Sunday.

Five gondolas derailed as they were rounding a bend and plunged to the ground, trapping several people and colliding with a children's ride.

It has now been revealed the owners have decided to partially reopen the amusement park four days after the incident.

They have opened the indoor complex, which houses the Kids Soft Play Area, Bowling and Amazonia, but the rides and roller coasters remain closed.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "The joint investigation into the circumstances of the incident at M&D's on Sunday is continuing between Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive.

"We have been made aware that the owners/operators have taken the decision to open the indoor complex of the park, which includes the Kids Soft Play Area, Bowling and Amazonia this morning .

"The rides and theme park area remain closed as investigations continue."

Three children remain in the Royal Hospital for Children after Sunday's roller coaster crash. Two of them remain in a serious condition and the third is stable.

The Tsunami passed its annual independent safety inspection earlier this month and was closed the day before the crash due to a minor electrical fault.

The owner of the theme park said all rides are safety checked on a daily basis and added his "heart goes out to" all of those involved.

Douglas Taylor, director of M&D's, said: "Each and every ride within the theme park is safety checked on a daily basis and undergoes a thorough independent inspection every 12 months.

"Tsunami had its annual independent safety inspection in early June.

"My brother Matthew and I have been in business together for 50 years and this is the first incident of this type that we have ever been involved with.

"We are devastated both as a family and a business and our heart goes out to everyone who has been affected by the accident."
