Forty cars destroyed as major blaze rips through showroom
Fire breaks out in garage at Clyde Place in Glasgow forcing closure of surrounding streets.
A major fire at a car sales showroom has left at least 40 car destroyed.
The fire broke out at around 2.30am on Wednesday in in the south side of Glasgow and crews remained at the scene throughout the morning.
A number of road closures were put in place while emergency services dealt with the blaze in Clyde Place, in the Tradeston area of the city.
Several fire crews tackled the "rapidly developing" fire and six pumps were used to extinguish the flames. The area was closed from Paisley Road to Commerce Street until 5.30am.
No one was injured in the fire but up to 40 vehicles were destroyed as a result.
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "Around 2.36am on Wednesday crews from Calton and Polmadie were dispatched to reports of a fire within a car sales premises in Clyde Place, Glasgow.
"On arrival, the incident commander deployed crews to the well developed fire. The was a rapidly developing fire and six pumps were used.
"The incident is ongoing and crews are carrying out dampening down of the area. Police Scotland are in attendance to minimise the effect on local traffic."
