A Scots couple who were reported missing by their family amid the Nice terror attack have been found safe and well.

Ross and Carole Annie Cowan were in the capital of the French Riviera on holiday when celebrating Bastille Day.

Ms Cowan's sister, Amy Stanton, from Helensburgh in Argyll and Bute, said her family had been unable to contact her and her husband.

On Friday afternoon, Ms Stanton confirmed they had contacted Mr and Mrs Cowan in France.

She said that, after STV News contacted French authorities on behalf of the family, the couple had been traced.

Previously, Ms Stanton had posted on Facebook an urgent appeal for anyone with information about where Mr and Mrs Cowan are to get in touch.

The attack in Nice at around 10pm on Thursday left at least 84 dead after a terrorist ploughed a lorry through the busy busy Promenade des Anglais.

President Francois Hollande said the incident was a "terrorist crime", while the attacker - reported to be 31-year-old French-Tunisian Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel - was shot dead by police at the scene.
