A woman was rescued after her car came off the road and plunged into a loch in Dumfries and Galloway.

Police were called to Carlingwark Loch by Castle Douglas after a Ford Focus careered into the water.

The incident happened at around 3.30pm on Tuesday.

A police statement read: "Officers found a Ford Focus car about 20 metres into the loch with a female driver still inside.

"Emergency services in attendance removed the woman from the car.

"She was uninjured, however, she was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where she is currently undergoing tests."
