Two pilots accused of being drunk before a transatlantic passenger plane took off have been granted bail.

Imran Zafar Syed, 37, of Toronto, Canada, and Jean-Francois Perreault, 39, of Ontario, were arrested before a Toronto-bound flight as it was due to depart Glasgow International Airport on Monday last week.

At Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday, they were both granted bail on the condition they surrendered their passports.

The Air Transat jet was due to fly to Toronto before both pilots were detained.

Both pilots were charged with offences under the Railway and Transport Safety Act 2003, which deals with performing activities relating to aviation while under the influence of alcohol.

They did not enter a plea or declaration when they appeared at the court last week.
