A 13-year-old boy was among four male fans arrested over disorder at a St Mirren v Greenock Morton match on Saturday.

The teenager, plus two men aged 20 and a 24-year-old man, were arrested at the game in Paisley, Renfrewshire, for offences including culpable and reckless conduct, threatening and abusive behaviour and obstruction.

Some of the offences relate to the use of smoke bombs at the match, which finished in a 1-1 draw.

Chief inspector Alison Kennedy, the match commander, said: "Persons with pyrotechnics and behaving in an unruly manner within football stadiums will not be tolerated.

"The majority of the supporters from both St Mirren and Morton were there to enjoy the football and behaved impeccably."

Morton director Warren Hawke said: "Greenock Morton Football Club acknowledges and fully appreciates that the behaviour of the vast majority of our fans was impeccable on Saturday at St Mirren.

"We are aware of some incidents and are cooperating fully with Police Scotland with their investigation into the small number of fans whose behaviour fell far short of what we expect.

"Pyrotechnics have no place in football, they are dangerous and illegal.

"Such behaviour by this minority places the club in very real danger of severe sanctions and heavy monetary fines by the football governing bodies as well as increased policing and stewarding costs at our games."

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
