Former Partick Thistle footballer Jordan McMillan has had his two-year suspension from sport reduced by a month after a ruling by anti-doping authorities.

McMillan was subsequently banned from all sports for two years by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) after testing positive for cocaine in December 2014.

The length of his suspension has now been reduced after he provided information to Police Scotland.

The latest ruling means his ban will come to an end on November 17.

McMillan had initially claimed he had taken cocaine after his drink was accidentally spiked by an acquaintance.

The National Anti-Doping Panel rejected his version of events and he was given a two-year ban.

In May this year, he made a statement to police regarding his acquaintance and the use of cocaine.

His acquaintance was initially charged with culpable and reckless conduct, a National Anti-Doping Panel ruling said, but the prosecution against him later faltered due to a lack of corroborating evidence.

The panel noted McMillan remained "firm" in his belief that his acquaintance was responsible for his ingesting of cocaine.

McMillan claimed his evidence to police represented "substantial assistance" to the authorities and he was therefore eligible to have his sanction reduced.

UKAD disagreed with this but the National Anti-Doping Panel ruled in the former Rangers and Dunfermline player's favour.

In its ruling, the panel said: "In the instant case a period of one month properly reflects the benefit due to the athlete and his period of ineligibility falls to be shortened by this period so as to end on Novermber 17, 2016."

His contract with Partick Thistle had earlier been terminated following an internal investigation.
