Five more supporters have been arrested over trouble at May's Scottish Cup final at Hampden.

The men were arrested in connection with alleged violence and disorder at the Hibernian v Rangers match at Hampden on Saturday, May 21, which ended in a pitch invasion. The total number of arrests is now 63.

Thousands of Hibs fans flooded on to the pitch at the national stadium in Glasgow to celebrate their team's 3-2 win over Championship rivals Rangers.

A smaller number of fans of the Ibrox side also ran on to the pitch, with some supporters from both sides involved in violent clashes.

Mounted police officers were called in to restore order after what the SFA described as "contemptible behaviour" from some supporters following the final whistle.

Police confirmed the fresh arrests on Friday. The men, aged 16, 23, 25, 29 and 36, were arrested over alleged violence and disorder and are expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday.

The arrests come two weeks after an inquiry into the Scottish Cup final found a minority of fans of both Hibs and Rangers were behind violent clashes.

The report commissioned by the Scottish FA into the disorder at the national stadium in Glasgow in May found a group of around 200 Hibernian fans who ran on to the pitch sparked the violent scenes.

Around 200 rival Rangers fans then ran on to the pitch, some of whom became involved in "physical confrontation" with rival supporters.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "A further five men, aged 16, 23, 25, 29 and 36 years, have been arrested in connection with the alleged violence and disorder at the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park.

"The latest arrests bring the total number to 63. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

"The police investigation is continuing into the violence and disorder, and officers are continuing to appeal to anyone with information that may assist their enquiries to contact the inquiry team on 0141 532 5457, or by emailing scottishcupfinalpitchinvasion@scotland.pnn.police.uk."
