A murder investigation has been launched after a man found injured on a street died in hospital.

Ryan Watson, 24, was discovered on Wilson Street after being attacked in Larkhall, South Lanarkshire, on Thursday last week.

He was taken to hospital but died a short time later and police have now confirmed he was murdered after receiving the results of a post-mortem examination.

Police say they believe the answer to Mr Watson's death lies in the local community as they appealed for anyone with information to come forward. He had a partner and young child.

Detective inspector Mark Bell from Police Scotland's major investigation team said: "From the enquiries my team have conducted so far, I am confident that the answer to Ryan's death lies within the local community of Larkhall.

"A young man's life has been taken away needlessly and the family of Ryan deserve to know the truth about what happened to him.

"Ryan had a partner and a young son who will have to continue their lives without him. His mum and dad have lost a son, his brothers and sister have lost a much loved brother.

"I'm making a direct appeal to those within the community, to search their conscience, and contact us with any information they may have because I know somebody knows who did this.

"If you have any information, however insignificant you may feel it is, please contact the incident room on 0141 532 5415, or Police Scotland on 101."
