A date has been set for a fatal accident inquiry into the death of lorry driver in a smash on the M74 last year.

Geoffrey Musgrave, 49, from Shotton Colliery in County Durham, died at the scene of the crash on the motorway near Elvanfoot, in South Lanarkshire.

The collision involving two articulated lorries, one carrying cattle, happened just south of Crawford in May 2015.

The 45-year-old driver of the other lorry was uninjured.

A date has now been set for a fatal accident inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding Mr Musgrave's death and will take place at Hamilton Sheriff Court later this year.

A notice in the Herald newspaper states: "The Sheriff of South Strathclyde Dumfries and Galloway at Hamilton will hold a preliminary hearing on September 15, 2016 at 10am and an inquiry on November 3 and 4 at 10am within the Sheriff Court House at Beckford Street, Hamilton, into the circumstances of the death of Geoffrey Musgrave."
