A man murdered a teenager by stabbing him through the heart in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, last year.

Paul Kane, 25, was found guilty of murdering 18-year-old Sean Banks following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

Liam Donnelly, 19, was convicted of the lesser allegation of culpable homicide on an art and part basis.

Both will return to the dock next month.

Kane sparked angry scenes in the courtroom by taunting and swearing at the victim's friends and family as he was led away.

Mr Banks was killed following an allegation by a 16-year-old girl that he had hit her, the court heard.

She said she had called Donnelly asking him to "batter" Mr Banks.

In evidence, the witness recalled: "Paul asked if Sean had any weapons on him. I said someone earlier mentioned he had a knife. Paul said 'I have a bigger one'."

She said she thought Kane had been joking, until he called back later to tell her: "That's it done."

The trial heard Mr Banks was stabbed four times after being confronted on September 12 last year.

Prosecutor Iain McSporran branded the killing "a brutal, unprovoked multiple stabbing".

The court was told Kane already had a long history of violence dating back to when he was a teenager.

Both he and Donnelly were also separately convicted of assaulting another boy.

Judge Lord Armstrong deferred sentencing until September 20 in Edinburgh.
