Drivers in Glasgow have been warned they face five months of delays as major Scottish Water works get under way.

The firm is advising motorists and commuters in part of the Govan area of the city of some road traffic management as it progresses with waste water network upgrades.

Part of the work involves the construction of a new sewage collection system known as a CSO on Govan Road, at its junction with Pacific Drive at the western corner of Festival Park, and a new pipe to connect the CSO to the main network.

This work is due to start on August 29 and is expected to take about five months to complete.

To enable the work to be carried out, a section of Govan Road which runs along the south side of Festival Park will be closed for the duration of the work. A diversion route will be in operation.

The road traffic management has been organised in liaison with Glasgow City Council's roads department.

A spokesman for Scottish Water said: "We have liaised with the bus company whose services will be affected by our work and we advise any affected bus passengers to leave extra time for their journeys.

"We will do everything we can to minimise any inconvenience to road users and would like to thank them in advance for their patience and understanding. All businesses in the area will be open as usual.

"Scottish Water is progressing with its £250m, five-year programme of work, launched in 2013, to improve river water quality and the natural environment and tackle flooding. This is the biggest investment in the Greater Glasgow area's waste water infrastructure in more than a century."
