A man is in a serious condition after being stabbed during an attempted murder in Renfrewshire.

The 29-year-old was found at a house on Bridge of Weir Road, Linwood,  in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Police were called out to the property at around 3.20am when the man was discovered suffering from stab wounds.

He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley by ambulance for treatment.  His condition is described as serious.

Police say they are treating the attack as attempted murder.

Detective sergeant Michael Lochrie said: "Our enquiries are at an early stage to establish more information on the circumstances surrounding this incident and to establish where it took place in the local area.

"At this time, I would urge anyone who was in the area of Bridge of Weir Road in Linwood in the early hours of this morning who witnessed anything suspicious or who has information that may assist police enquiries to contact Paisley Police Office through 101.

"Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."
