Three people have been rescued from the top floor of a block of flats after a sofa was deliberately set on fire.

Fire crews used ladders to help the trio to safety at an address in Kinfauns Drive, in the Drumchapel area of Glasgow, on Tuesday afternoon.

No one was seriously hurt but police say they are treating the incident as a "wilful fire raising" after an "old sofa" was discovered on fire in the close and removed from the building.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called at 4.12pm following reports of a fire in the ground floor of a two-storey property on Kinfauns Drive in Drumchapel, Glasgow earlier today.

"Three appliances and a high-reach vehicle were mobilised to the scene.

"Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and were able to bring the fire under control.

"At the same time, three people were rescued from the second floor by firefighters using ladders."
