A teenager and a 21-year-old have been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a man at the weekend.

Police launched a probe after an alleged "violent attack" in Glasgow city centre in the early hours of Saturday.

A 40-year-old was found around 2.45am in West George Street and was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary before being transferred to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Officers confirmed on Wednesday that a 16-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man have now been arrested and detained in police custody.

He is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court in connection with the attack.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "A 16-year-old male has been arrested and is presently detained in police custody in connection with the incident.

"A further man, aged 21, has been arrested and is presently detained in police custody in connection with the incident.

"A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."
