A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a party-goer outside a 21st birthday celebration.

Gary Weir, 24, died from stab wounds following an alleged disturbance outside Shettleston Juniors football ground and social club in Glasgow earlier this month.

Three other men were seriously injured and required hospital treatment after the alleged incident in the east end of the city on August 7.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday, 21-year-old John Kelly was charged with murdering Mr Weir and assaulting him to his severe injury and danger of life.

He made no plea or declaration as was remanded in custody.

Four other men also appeared in court in connection with Mr Weir's death.

Liam Stead, John Graham and Michael Gentles, all aged 20, and 19-year-old Adam Williams, were charged with assault to severe injury and danger of life.

All four men made no plea or declaration and were granted bail.

However, they remain in police custody pending an appeal by prosecutors.
