A young boy was taken to hospital after he was attacked by a dog outside a Tesco store.

The 14 year old approached the bullmastiff, which was tied up, outside the store in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, and was bitten on the hand.

The youngster tried to get away from the dog but it bit him again and latched onto his hand. When the boy broke free the dog continued to bark.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment to bite wounds.

Detectives are still trying to trace the dog and its owner, who made off from the scene after the incident on August 12.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
