A two-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after falling from the window of a flat.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene of the incident in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, at around 4.15pm on Tuesday.

The toddler was taken by ambulance from the scene in Kirkwood Street to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Police have launched an investigation into the fall.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 4.15pm on Tuesday August 23, police were called after a child fell from the windown of a flat in Kirkwood Street, Rutherglen.

"A two-year-old boy was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

"Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident."
