A blaze that ripped through a derelict school building is being treated as deliberate.

Firefighters were called to the school in the Milton area of Glasgow around 5pm on Wednesday as a column of black smoke was seen over the city.

Three fire engines were sent to the scene at the former Milton School, on Liddesdale Terrace. A probe has now been launched into the wilful fire.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 5pm on Wednesday, police were called to a report of a fire at the old Milton School, Liddesdale Terrace, Glasgow.

"Following a joint investigation between police and fire services, the fire is being treated as wilful.

"Nobody was injured during the incident.

"Enquiries are continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact Maryhill CID on 101. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence."
