Detectives have made an arrest after the death of a man following a fight outside flats.

Lee Monaghan, 23, was found by police seriously injured in the street in Greenock, Inverclyde, on Wednesday but died at the scene shortly after.

Officers were called to reports of an altercation on Belville Street at around 11.20pm and launched a major investigation into the incident.

A 20-year-old man is now detained in custody in connection with the death and is expected to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Monday.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of 23-year-old Lee Monaghan from Greenock who died in Belville Street Greenock.

"The man is presently detained in police custody and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."
