A mother and daughter were rescued after more than five hours lost in the woods near Loch Lomond.

Police said officers were first contacted at around 4.40pm on Friday by the pair, who got lost after leaving their campsite to go on a walk through the forest.

Police Scotland said: "Unable to find them, we requested the assistance of the local mountain rescue team at around 6:30pm."

Members of the Lomond mountain rescue team were dispatched and joined by a coastguard helicopter to search in the Cashel Forest area.

Around five and a half hours after the alarm was first raised to police, the woman and child were finally located at about 10.15pm safe and uninjured.

Police said they were "found in dense woodland".
