A man was stabbed during a fight at a dance gig at the O2 Academy venue in Glasgow.

The 29-year-old victim was stabbed in a fight at the Island Bar around 1.30am on Saturday.

He was taken by ambulance from the Eglinton Street venue to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and later released.

Police said the bar was packed at the time of the attack and staff stepped in quickly to break up the fight.

The venue was hosting a night of Australian DJs put on by dance promoter Colours at the time.

Detective constable Lee-Anne Miller, of Greater Glasgow CID, said: "The injured man was standing in the bar area when he became involved in an altercation with the suspect which then led to a fight in which he was stabbed.

"Thankfully no one else was injured but with the number of people about, this could have escalated quite easily.

"We are working with staff from the venue, who quickly stepped in to stop the fight, and we are checking CCTV inside the premises to identify the person responsible for the attack.

"The gig was packed at the time of the assault and a number of people have been spoken to regarding what they saw, however, I am still keen that anyone who witnessed the incident contact police."

The attacker is described as white, in his late teens to early twenties and was between 5ft 7in and 6ft, with short dark hair.

He was wearing a white polo shirt and light coloured knee-length shorts.

Information can be given to officers at Govan CID via 101.
