A lorry carrying a wind turbine blade has been destroyed after a blaze ripped through the vehicle.

The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday on the A714 around ten miles from Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway.

Fire crews were called to the blaze on Bargrennan Bridge at 5.55am and when two fire engines from Newton Stewart arrived they were faced with a fire within the cab of the HGV.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus quickly extinguished the blaze and the driver of the vehicle was not injured. The cab of the HGV was completely destroyed by fire.

A statement from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "The road has been closed and diversions are in place. The clean-up operation continues."
