Two men have been jailed for killing another man at his home in front of young children at his home in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire.

Reece Brunton, 21, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 13 years after admitting to the murder of John Hamilton in November 2015.

Liam Kippen, also 21, was jailed for eight years following his guilty plea to the reduced charge of culpable homicide.

Judge Lord Turnbull told the pair: "You each participated in an act of brutal violence. You each bear responsibility for what was done."

The High Court in Glasgow earlier heard the 35-year-old victim was attacked after a getting a message from Kippen warning him to stay away an ex-girlfriend.

The woman had once been in a relationship with Mr Hamilton but Kippen had since been in a "close friendship" with her.

The message warned that if anyone went near her "I am doing a lifer".

Brunton and Kippen later forced their way into Mr Hamilton's house.

Prosecutor David Taylor told the court Brunton then stabbed Mr Hamilton six times while Kippen attacked him with a block of concrete.

The jury heard at least one woman and three young children were in the house at the time.

Brunton was described in court as a "habitual offender" who had committed his first crime at the age of ten and had 28 appearances in front on the Children's Panel on his record.
