CCTV images have been released of a man police are hunting over a "brutal and unprovoked" attack in a city centre lane.

A 22-year-old man was left seriously injured and needing hospital treatment after the assault in Glasgow on July 8.

The attack happened at around 9.30pm in St Vincent Lane. Officers are hunting the man seen in the CCTV images.

He is described as white, in his early 20s, 6ft and of heavy build. He was wearing a dark green jacket, dark trousers and dark skip cap. He was last seen walking west on St Vincent Lane towards Wellington Street.

Detective constable James Herbison, from Greater Glasgow CID, said: "This was a brutal and unprovoked attack in Glasgow city centre which has left a man requiring hospital treatment for serious injuries.

"Our enquiries are continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or possibly been walking or driving in the area.

"Anyone who recognises the man described above is also asked to contact police at the city centre police office on 101."
