A woman has been seriously injured after being knocked down by a car in the north of Glasgow.

The 19-year-old pedestrian was struck by the black vehicle on Springburn Road near its junction with Petershill Road on Friday.

Police and ambulance crews attended the incident at around 10.25am.

Emergency services closed the road southbound for several hours as they responded to the incident.

The woman was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where staff describe her condition as serious but stable.

Constable Grant Neilson said: "I would appeal to anyone who was on Springburn Road around the time of the incident and may have seen what happened to get in touch."
