An attack which left a man with serious head injuries is being treated as attempted murder by police.

Detectives in Paisley are investigating after a 39-year-old man was assaulted by a group while walking in the town's Forbes Place.

The injured man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment after the attack, which took place at about 8.25pm on Saturday.

Medical staff have described his condition as serious.

Detective inspector Tom Carty of Police Scotland's Paisley office, said: "Enquiries are ongoing at this time to gather more information on the circumstances surrounding this incident and those responsible.

"At this time, I would urge anyone who witnessed the attack take place, or who has any information that may assist the police investigation, to contact Paisley Police Office through 101.
