Tenement flats were evacuated after a car crashed into a delicatessen and caused a gas leak.

The collision happened at The Deli in Glasgow's Saracen Street at about 1.40am on Monday.

The Audi car is believed to have struck gas fixtures in the premises in the Possil area, forcing the fire service to evacuate 13 residents from the building.

The damage was repaired in the early hours of Monday morning and two men have been taken into custody in connection with a stolen vehicle.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "At around 1.40am on Monday, police and emergency services responded to a report of an allegedly stolen Audi car colliding with a tenement on Saracen Street in Possilpark.

"The impact caused damage to gas fixtures resulting in 13 people being evacuated from four separate flats within the close.

"They were able to return to their homes at 4.50am after gas repairs were made. No one was injured as a result of the incident.

"The road has now reopened. Two men, aged 27 and 26 were arrested in connection with the incident. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
