A man has died in hospital after he was found injured outside his home.

The man, named locally as Gary Spence, is understood to have been discovered by a carer lying in the street outside his flat in Bonhill, West Dunbartonshire, on Thursday.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene on George Street Lane at around 8.40am. The 43-year-old man was taken by ambulance to hospital, where he died.

Detectives have launched an investigation into the death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Around 8.40am on Thursday, police were called to George Street Lane in Bonhill after a 43-year-old man was found seriously injured.

"He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, but died a short time later. Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances at this time."
