A man sexually assaulted one woman and raped another while they slept, a court heard.

Darren McCutcheon attacked a 21-year-old woman who was asleep at an address in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire in December 2012.

In April 2015 he raped another woman who was also asleep in bed.

On Friday, McCutcheon, of Springburn, Glasgow, was convicted of sexual assault and rape following a five day trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.

The 31-year-old, who has previous convictions for drugs offences, had denied doing anything wrong and claimed that his victims had consented.

The court heard that police arrested McCutcheon after detectives spoke to the two women.

Judge Lord Woolman deferred sentence until November for the court to obtain reports.
