A violent Scots fugitive is among ten most wanted British criminals believed to be in Spain.

Jonathan Kelly, 35, from Glasgow, was released from Low Moss prison in August 2014 and was due to meet police and social work staff every day.

Police Scotland raised the alarm when he failed to turn up at a scheduled appointment and then disappeared, launching a major hunt before warning the public not to approach him.

He has not been seen once since he disappeared more than two years ago and the authorities now believe Kelly, whose father was a convicted gangland killer, may be hiding in Spain.

Police also believe gangland associates or criminal friends have been helping him evade capture.

The list of criminals believed to be in Spain was unveiled by British and Spanish authorities at a joint press conference in Malaga on Thursday.

Jamie Acourt, 40, from south-east London, a suspect in the Stephen Lawrence murder, is on the list over drugs charges as well as murder accused Shane O'Brien, 28, and suspected fraudster Mark Acklom, 43, from London.

Steve Reynolds, head of international operations for the National Crime Agency, said: "The fugitives we are hunting are wanted for serious crimes and must be returned to the UK to face justice.

"We need the support of the public to help us catch them. Be our eyes and ears and tell us if you have any information on the whereabouts of our targets."

Crimestoppers chairman Lord Ashcroft said: "These people have managed to evade arrest and avoid justice.

"We know that with the help of Spanish authorities, along with the public in Spain and the UK, we can find these people."
