Armed robbers made off with a four-figure sum of money after threatening a worker at a bookmakers in South Lanarkshire.

Two men with their faces covered walked into the William Hill in St Leonard's Square, East Kilbride, on Thursday night with what appeared to be a firearm and demanded the cash.

No one was injured during the incident at about 9.10pm but a member of staff and a customer were left badly shaken.

The suspects were wearing hooded tops, gloves and scarves. One man was described as wearing a dark hooded top, dark trousers and black trainers with white soles. He was in possession of a coloured carrier bag.

The second suspect was wearing a dark hooded jacket, dark jogging trousers with white stripes down the outside legs and white trainers.

Detective sergeant Ronnie Douglas, of Cambuslang police office, said: "This investigation is at an early stage, we are still in the process of carrying out door-to-door enquiries and everything is being done to trace those responsible.

"We will also be seeking to gather CCTV footage from in and around this area as it may provide us with additional detail on the suspects.

"There are a number of other premises in this area, such as an off licence, a chip shop and a supermarket, so I am appealing to anyone who was in the area last night around the time of the incident to contact us, you may have seen something which could prove significant in helping us trace the men responsible."
