A man has died after he plunged from a hotel window outside Glasgow Central station.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene in the city centre at around 11.30am on Friday.

A major police presence was put in place on Gordon Street with several cars and vans as well as ambulance vehicles.

It is understood the man was naked when he fell from a third or fourth floor window of the building and landed on a table below. He was in contact with police immediately before he fell.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) confirmed the man has died at 12.10pm and said it will now investigate the police response to the incident.

A spokeswoman for the PIRC said: "The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) has instructed the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner to carry out an investigation into police contact with a man who died following an incident in Gordon Street, Glasgow, on Friday, November 11.

"A report on the commissioner's findings will be submitted to the COPFS in due course."

Police Scotland issued a statement saying: "Efforts are underway to trace the man's next of kin."
