A single-decker bus parked in a driveway went up in flames in Newarthill, North Lanarkshire, on Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the scene in High Street at around 1.15pm and tackled the blaze, which began at the back of the bus before consuming it entirely.

It is understood that nobody was injured in the incident. The road remains closed while police investigate the source of the fire.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called to a report of a bus on fire in High Street, Newarthill, at around 1.15pm.

"Emergency services attended and inquiries are still ongoing."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they sent two appliances to the scene and that firefighters were in attendance for around an hour.
