Motherwell pensioners get council Christmas payout
Annual gift ready to collect next week
Motherwell’s pensioners are set to get an early Christmas treat with a gift from North Lanarkshire Council.
The annual gift of £15 is available to collect from now until December 9 and for those who have difficulty getting out, they can nominate someone else to collect their payment for them. That person should take with them the completed application form and the identification of the person claiming the gift.
Councillor Robert Burrow, vice convener of the policy and resources committee, said: “Despite the gloomy economic picture at the moment, we took the decision to continue with this scheme.
“It is a time-honoured council tradition that I know our residents value and enjoy. I would urge everyone who is entitled to a payment to make sure they take advantage of it before December 9.”
Acceptable items of identification are a recent bank statement, a bus pass, or a recent council tax bill.
In the Motherwell area, collections can be made on Saturday December 4 between 9.30am and 2pm, or from December 6 to 9 from 9.30am until 4pm at the Motherwell First Stop Shop on Merry Street.
Application forms and further information about the Christmas gift scheme are available on the council’s website or by contacting the revenue and benefits support team on 01698 403982.
